The heavier incorporation of the touch screen is an important recent development in gaming. Society today is all about convenience. A touch screen is the most convenient, user-friendly way to interact with electronics. Today’s tablets, handhelds and even game controllers have begun to capitalize on the convenience of a touch screen by having it heavily influence their products and services. These new products have expanded the gaming community by attracting a larger age range of casual gamers.

We have items emerging like Microsoft’s Surface, Sony’s PlayStation Vita, and Nintendo’s Wii U that incorporate a touch screen in its own unique way. Microsoft’s Surface has a full touch screen and a full touch detachable keyboard. The PlayStation Vita has touch capabilities on the front and back of the handheld, which allows for a different kind of gaming experience. Uncharted: Golden Abyss does a really good job of showcasing that. Nintendo has a touch screen on their game pad that you use in conjunction with the Wii U console.

There are definitely upcoming developments in games that will revolutionize the industry. With every generation of console, there has been some sort of development that continues this forward moving momentum.

The rumor with the PlayStation 4 is the incorporation of the touch screen in their controller that has an interface that is similar to the PlayStation Vita. This is something Nintendo already started with their Wii U. They have the 3DS and the Wii U gamepad that have touch capabilities that interact with the Wii U.
